The holiday baking aisle revealed this Jello mix for a candy cane no bake cheesecake and I got more excited than I would like to admit. I really enjoy peppermint especially paired with chocolate and this looks like the perfect mix. However, I do have to remind you that while Jello’s no bake cheesecake was really good, their pumpkin “style” no bake pie is one of the worst things I have ever eaten and they should be forced to remove it from the market. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this candy cane mix is not a disaster.

This box mix calls for melted butter and milk. That’s it, nice and simple. First you combine the crust mix with the melted butter and you press it into your pie pan along the bottom and the sides. This crust mix tasted like Oreos and was pretty crumbly so it took some careful hands to get it to stick onto the sides of the pan but it did eventually work.

Next you mix the milk and the cheesecake mix together and whip it until it’s thick, they say this takes 3 minutes. I used a hand mixer and it whipped up like whipped cream. It was light pink and had a good amount of peppermint flavor, not overwhelming. Once the consistency is correct you then fold in about half of the sprinkles provided in the box. Based on visuals and the “candy cane” title in the box mix I expected these to be crushed pieces of candy cane. I didn’t realize they were circular sprinkles that were marbled red and white and had no flavor at all.

Next you take your cheesecake mixture and spread it all into the crust. Then top it with the remainder of the sprinkles. It looked cute at this point and I put it into the fridge to set up for an hour.

Once the hour was up I pulled this no bake pie out of the fridge and cut it into 8 slices. The box called for 6 slices but I felt like even the 8 slices were too big and you could easily get 10 or 12. The crust had firmed up and the cheesecake mixture was sturdier.
I think cheesecake is an incorrect title for this dessert. I definitely didn’t get any cheesecake flavor or cream cheese tanginess. This came across as a peppermint whipped cream with an Oreo crust. The sprinkles added a nice crunch but I could take or leave them, they didn’t feel necessary. Overall the flavors were really good and meshed well and I would buy this peppermint pie again.
