Trying out WhiteLily’s chocolate fudge flavored brownie mix

It’s not often that I find a brand new plain brownie mix at the store but honestly I have never tried a Whitelily brownie mix. I hadn’t even seen them until today. I have tried other Whitelily products and enjoyed them just not their brownies. Whitelily started with selling flour and began branching out from there into other products such as breads, biscuits, and even brownies!

This box specifically says “chocolate fudge flavored brownie” which really changed my views on the marketing. I thought they were including fudge in the title to imply it’s a fudgey brownie but it seems Whitelily has informed us that it’s fudge flavored, not consistency. This box also states “Rich, moist and chewy”.

I mixed up the batter with the required egg, oil, and water. It was a thicker batter but I don’t feel that the batter thickness dictates whether the brownie will be fudgey or not. As I tasted the batter, it seemed to almost have a fruity undertone that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. It was good batter, don’t get me wrong, but I couldn’t understand why it had a subtle fruit flavor. The batter does have chocolate chips which I appreciate, they are the best additive for a brownie.

I put the batter in an 8×8 pan and tossed them into the oven. At about 36 minutes they were ready to come out. As expected, this was less time than the box claims, so always keep an eye on your brownies and trust no box. I let them cool and cut them into the standard 16 pieces. They cut nicely and had a standard thickness to them, it wasn’t overly thin or surprisingly thick. The pan seemed to cook evenly with only a slight crunch to the edges. Have we baked enough brownies together yet to discuss the controversial topic of which brownie piece is the best? The corner, the edge piece, or the center piece? It is such a divisive topic so I would love to hear which brownie you pick in the comments.

These brownies tasted fantastic. They definitely have a good amount of fudgey to them but overwhelmingly the consistency is chewy. I was so busy worrying about fudgey and cakey brownies I hadn’t stopped to consider the other options like chewy. I enjoyed it but not as much as a melt in your mouth fudgey brownie that I am constantly seeking. I think a chewy brownie belongs in a mug under some vanilla ice cream. This was a good box mix and definitely belongs on the list of brownie mixes to buy again.

This box mix as prepared is 2780 calories. If cut into 16 each brownie is 173 calories.
