Since it’s officially Christmas crunch time, I wanted to post something a little different. Here is a list of all of the amazing cookies we’ve tried this year put together in one place for your holiday needs. If you’re looking for something else, you can always select the tags at the top of a post to view all posts with that same tag such as “cookies” “brownies “Krusteaz” etc but since I am a sucker for cutting corners, I put every good cookie together in this guide so you don’t need to sort through the mediocre ones.
Cookies are a love language, whether you are deep in the Christmas celebrations or you don’t celebrate, nobody is saying no to cookies. They are fantastic ways to say “thank you” or “I appreciate you”. You can easily wrap up a box of cookies as a holiday gift for your loved ones, for a host, a teacher, coworkers, anyone you are thinking of this season. Let’s jump into some great cookie mixes and recipes that will make perfect gifts or perfect staying home snacks for you to enjoy.
Let’s start this off by looking at the box mixes we made this year.
– Crinkle Cookies , Betty Crocker
This cookie is a popular Christmas cookie and Betty Crocker’s mix is full of chocolate chips and makes a great quick crinkle cookie.
– Peppermint Sugar Cookies , Betty Crocker
Peppermint is the flavor of the season and this mix adds a nice subtle peppermint flavor to the traditional sugar cookie. It’s super soft and super tasty.
– Triple Chocolate Chunk Cookies , Krusteaz
Krusteaz is always a safe bet. If you need chocolate chip cookies and don’t have a homemade recipe, this is quick and convenient. If you want your cookies less flat than mine I definitely recommend refrigerating the dough for at least half an hour before scooping and baking.
– Snickerdoodle Cookies , Krusteaz
Snickerdoodles definitely belong on your holiday cookie platter and this is an easy way to make them. I definitely recommend refrigerating your dough for at least half an hour before baking to get a better shape and less flat cookies.
– Peanut Butter Cookies , Betty Crocker
I tested this box mix against the commonly known three ingredient peanut butter cookie recipe and it turns out Betty Crocker’s had a better flavor and were more moist. However, if you are only making one peanut butter cookie this year it should be peanut butter blossoms with Hershey kisses on top, here’s the recipe I used this year.
– Raspberry filled Chocolate Cookies , Pillsbury
To me, a filled cookie is a pleasant surprise and shows that extra effort and attention was used to make this cookie. These are not very hard to make, just messy. There is also a caramel version of this box mix if you don’t like raspberry.
– Gingerbread cookies , Great Value
The Great value branded gingerbread cookie mix was a clear winner, the depth of flavor was just so much better. In a pinch, Betty Crocker’s mix is good but not as good as Great Value. I will say though that this box mix was not much easier than homemade it mostly just saves you the effort of purchasing molasses to keep in your kitchen until you need it again next year.
Next, let’s take a look through a few recipes from social media that we tried this year that were absolute game changers, I haven’t stopped thinking about them since. They do require more effort than the box mixes but they are so impressive you can’t go wrong with any of them.
– Red Velvet Cookies: These cookies are super simple and made from a boxed cake mix. They are delicious and a gorgeous red color. I think these would be adorable with green dyed frosting and if you wanted to be a little extra you could add red heart sprinkles on the top as a reference to the Grinch’s heart.
– Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop Tart Cookies: This recipe takes some more time and attention but they are phenomenal, I’ve made them a couple times and they never fail to impress everyone! Filled cookies just come off as so impressive and who doesn’t love Brown Sugar Cinnamon pop tarts? You have to bring these to your holiday parties, I know I will be.
– Chocolate Chip Cookies: If you are looking for an over the top chocolate chip cookie recipe, this is the one for you. This is a huge chocolate chip cookie with the perfect consistency and topped with sea salt that makes them appear fancy.
– Norwegian Christmas Butter Square: No cookie compares to this cookie bar especially if you add almond extract. It is so soft and addictive, you’ll want to keep them all for yourself! I can’t even begin to describe this cookie to you, but you have to give it a try, you won’t regret it!
Finally, here are a few more cookie ideas to inspire you.
Over the weekend, I attended a Christmas cookie exchange party where everyone brought cookies and you left with a variety of cookies to take home. While I don’t have the recipes, I wanted to share some of the most notable cookies to inspire you if you need something new to try this year.
- – Hot Cocoa cookie: A chocolate cookie with chocolate frosting and topped with marshmallows, simple and delicious.
- -Chocolate chocolate chip with toffee: Self explanatory and amazing. Toffee is a fantastic way to elevate cookies.
- – Pumpkin chocolate chip: Pumpkin might seem like a fall flavor but considering we eat pumpkin pie for Christmas I think it is right at home. Pumpkin puree makes everything so moist, you can never go wrong with a pumpkin cookie.
- – Orange Chocolate Palmier: Phenomenal cookie with a flakey consistency and so many delicious layers. This dessert would require time and patience but it would impress everyone ever if you made these. I know I was impressed seeing them homemade in this cookie exchange!
I hope you enjoy this cookie guide and it brings you the inspiration you need to bake this holiday season. Do you have any box mixes or social media recipes you want me to try out?
