Fall flavors usually consist of Pumpkin this, Apple that, but it really doesn’t have to. Fall baking can be whatever you want it to be. It’s really the best season to be cozy so any treat that gets you into that cozy mindset is perfect. So to take a step away from all of the pumpkin flavors we have been baking on here I have decided we’re trying out this recipe I found in a facebook article for the perfect fall Rice Krispie treats. They consist of browned butter and fall spices. This recipe is a new take on the traditional Rice Krispie treats that we all know and love so I am excited to give it a try and see if it improves these beloved treats or if it is an unnecessary addition.

This recipe is a slightly different take on the traditional Rice Krispie treat, to start out you need to brown your butter in a saucepan or a pot. Then add in your marshmallows and your spices, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and salt. A pot is preferred but since I used a saucepan, I combined all these ingredients in a bowl and then placed it in the microwave for a minute to get the marshmallows melted and gooey. At this point the mixture smelled divine.

Next I added in the rice krispie cereal and mixed it all together. Once fully combined, I transferred the mixture into a greased 9×13 glass pan, flattened it, and let it cool down. Once cool I cut the pan into 24 pieces like the recipe called for.

One bite and I knew I would be talking about this recipe for life. I had no idea the difference salt could make in a rice krispie treat but the addition was a game changer. The spices added were perfect and not overwhelming. I didn’t get much of the nutty browned butter flavor but I like the fall colored tint it gives these rice krispie treats so I would absolutely do this again. The flavor is reminiscent of the brown sugar pop tart filled cookies we made last year (which are as amazing as they sound). The cinnamon and browned butter in this recipe compliment each other in a similar way. Besides the shopping for ingredients and the cooling portion, this recipe took me about 15 minutes to make and it was so simple I think it’s going to become my go-to fall recipe every year.
