On Instagram, I came across a video from iramsfoodstory sharing their perfected chocolate chip cookie recipe. The cookies in the video looked perfect like they claimed so I had to try them out. I included the video here to give credit and also the recipe in case you would like to use it. At first glance, I noticed that this cookie recipes has more chocolate chips than flour and only makes 9-10 cookies. There were not small amounts of each ingredient so I expect these cookies to come out much bigger than the average cookie and very full of chocolate chips. The other ingredients seemed very typical for a standard chocolate chip cookie.
This recipe was very typical and didn’t have any steps out of the ordinary. You start by mixing together the melted butter, sugar, and brown sugar. Once combined, you add the vanilla and egg. While that mixes together, you sift the flour, baking soda, and salt together. Next those ingredients get mixed into the dough. Once the dough comes together, you add in the chocolate chips. I have to say that it was almost too many chocolate chips. Now, before you yell at me through the screen that there is no such thing, hear me out. I only say this because there was not enough cookie dough to stick to itself around the chocolate chips. It was crumbling apart and required some finessing to smoosh the dough together into a successful ball of cookie dough. This cookie dough was fantastic to eat though. The salt complimented the sweetness very well. It was the type of dough that you are sad to have to bake into cookies because you’d rather eat the dough.
Since this recipe called for 9-10 cookies, I scooped the cookie dough with a 3 tablespoon sized scoop. For size reference, I typically do a 1 tablespoon sized scoop and reserve the 3 for muffins and cupcakes. With heaping scoops, I got 11 cookies so I would say that this was the intended scoop size from the poster, although they did not mention a size. They recommend only placing 4 cookies on a the sheet pan to allow them to spread, this just solidifies my expectation of this recipe making massive cookies.
The recipe calls for baking these cookies for 12 minutes at 350F and it was accurate, hallelujah! These cookies came out gorgeous looking. Not overly browned on the bottom and not too soft that you have to let it sit to finish baking on the pan. They were fairly big cookies, not massive, but definitely big enough that I could only eat one at a time. The amount of chocolate chips in the cookies looked perfect and didn’t affect the final cookie like it had affected the dough. The final step is to sprinkle these cookies with sea salt. I am not a huge sea salt fan so I only sprinkled a few to compare and see if it was a necessary addition.
The consistency of this cookie was the star of the show. For me, what ruins a good chocolate chip cookie is when they get too crunchy. This cookie was fantastic. A crisp on the edge that wasn’t too much and a soft gooey center that appears slightly undercooked but texturally you can tell it is perfectly cooked. This cookie absolutely deserves to be paired with a nice glass of milk. These cookies had such a good flavor and the right amount of chocolate chips. I felt like the cookies without the sea salt were perfectly salted and much better than the sea salt cookies. The sea salt barely stuck to the cookies so it was falling off as I ate them and it was too much salt for my preference.
You definitely need to give this cookie recipe a try. It is superior to the standard nestle tollhouse cookie recipe. I think this dough would be perfect to keep in the freezer and pop a few into the oven when you want to eat some cookies. When I make this recipe again, I will try reducing the size of the cookie down as I prefer a smaller cookies. Keep in mind this will affect the bake time if you do this and may affect the consistency as it will bake differently.
The calories of the entire dough as prepared comes to 3790. If broken down into 11 cookies as I did, it is 345 calories per cookie. If you get 9 cookies as the recipe suggests, it is 421 calories per cookie.

400 calories per cookie??? That is making me question my life.
In all seriousness, most of us have a go-to chocolate chip recipe, but I am always happy to add a new recipe to the list so thank you for the heads up on a mew recipe worth my time.
It has definitely been an eye opening experience to look into the calories for every dessert I make and inevitably eat.
