We have compared a couple of blueberry muffin mixes on here like Krusteaz and Betty Crocker and there are a lot of blueberry muffin mixes on the market but this is the first time I have seen Marie calendars mix in stores near me. I’m excited to give it a try and see how it compares to other blueberry muffins I have had. But first, we really, really need to have a talk with these companies because no one wants to buy a mix for muffins and only get 6 muffins, it’s disappointing and underwhelming. I expect every mix to provide a dozen or more of said product whether it’s muffins, cupcakes, cookies, anything. I can’t do anything with 6 muffins.

This mix requires milk, melted butter, and an egg. The directions say once mixed it will be lumpy but I didn’t experience this. The only thoughts I had about the batter consistency was that it was thinner than I expected. The batter included bits of blueberries but they were lacking, I felt like they should have doubled the blueberries and I would have been happier. However, tasting the batter I found it was not lacking in blueberry flavor, they definitely incorporated artificial flavor into the powdered mix.

I used cupcake papers and lined my 6 muffin cups and filled them with batter, about 3/4 full. I placed the pan into the oven at 400°. The recipe called for 12-14 minutes of baking and I started checking on them sooner but found at 13 minutes they were baked and ready. This was exactly within their estimated bake time which is a rare experience, leaves me wondering how accurate the bake times are for other Marie Calendar mixes since this is my first impression of them.

Right out of the oven, these muffins came out gorgeous. Each one had a perfect golden domed top and they smelled amazing. I let them cool a little bit before breaking one open. Inside the muffin I once again felt like the blueberry bits were lacking. Most of the muffin appeared plain but the blueberry flavor was definitely there. These muffins were really good and I would probably buy them again but with the market so full of options, I’m more interested in a blueberry muffin mix that has more blueberries inside like Krusteaz’s wild blueberry muffins that contained a can of actual blueberries to be mixed in. There is nothing wrong with this mix it just isn’t my favorite.
