Best Brownie Hunt

The hunt for the perfect fudgey brownie

Growing up, my grandpa made the perfect brownies that were so fudgey, dense, and just perfection. I could eat them all day every day and just thinking about them makes my mouth water.
When he was baking he would typically start with a written recipe from a cookbook and modify it over the years until it was perfect. He never seemed to write the modified version down so the recipe only lived within him.
Unfortunately, he passed before I could get the magical brownie recipe from him and I have been chasing the perfect brownie ever since. Not a single day goes by that I do not crave a fudgey brownie but most of the time I am let down when a brownie is more on the cakey side.
I never hesitate to try to take a shortcut by using a box-mix because who doesn’t love the easier option if it brings a perfect brownie?
Come with me on the hunt for a perfect fudgey brownie recipe. If fudgey isn’t your thing, that’s okay! I expect to encounter many brownies that are delicious but not in the fudgey category and I will be sharing my thoughts on every one I try!

  • Trying King Arthur’s Garlic Bread pull apart baking mix

I had my eye on this mix for awhile and when it went on sale on Amazon I knew I had to grab it. I don’t typically like making bread but with the ease and convenience of a box mix it usually isn’t too bad and who doesn’t love garlic bread? Of course we have…

  • Angel food cake showdown – Betty Crocker vs Duncan Hines

I have only encountered two box mix options for Angel food cake near me, Betty Crocker and Duncan Hines. In general, angel food cake is a finicky recipe to make so I assume it is an even harder box mix to create and many other companies are steering clear. With that said, we have to…

  • Dollar tree showdown, Abigail’s Kitchen sugar cookies vs Betty Crocker

Last time I wandered into Dollar Tree I found Abigail’s kitchens bread pudding mix and it was really, really good. Today I went back hoping for more mixes from this brand and they delivered. I found a Snickerdoodle cookie mix, a shortbread cookie mix, and a sugar cookie mix. Right beside their sugar cookie mix…

  • Trying Rabbit Creek’s million dollar brownie mix

From Tennessee to my home kitchen, it’s finally time to try out Rabbit Creek’s million dollar brownie mix. Their espresso chip cookie we tried last week was pretty good so let’s see how their other mixes compare. This particular mix is a “million dollar” brownie mix and all that means is that it contains chocolate…

  • Trying a new brand, Rabbit Creek, Espresso chip cookie mix

Over the holidays I found myself across the country in Tennessee and inside the “world’s largest knife store”. While they did have more knives than a person could ever imagine, they also had some unrelated items such as a full kitchen section. I didn’t mean for it to happen but I stumbled upon some box…
